Harry Hayfield – Elections Officer
As the esteemed Elections Officer for the organization of Lesbian, Gay,Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, and Allies+ within the Green Party of
England and Wales, I am entrusted with the pivotal task of navigating
the electoral landscape, discerning the trends, and strategizing to
advance sexual diversity in the political arena. My journey into the intricate world of elections began in 1989, a time
when the political climate was evolving, and my curiosity was piqued by
the dynamics of democracy. Over the years, my passion for understanding
electoral processes deepened, fueling my commitment to fostering
inclusive representation. In my role, I am the conduit for all the polls
that inundate our organization during and between elections. I
meticulously analyze data, assess potential outcomes, and endeavor to
ascertain whether electoral victories will amplify the presence of
LGBTQIA+ individuals in the corridors of power, be it the House of
Commons, the London Assembly, the Welsh Senedd, or local council
chambers across the nation. However, despite my profound immersion in the realm of elections, a
significant realization has recently dawned upon me. The tragic loss of
my grandparents to the pandemic in 2021 catalyzed a period of
introspection, during which I unearthed layers of my identity that had
long remained concealed. It was then that I began to acknowledge,
embrace, and comprehend the complexities of my existence. I am autistic,
a facet of my identity that shapes my perceptions, cognition, and
interactions with the world around me. Moreover, I identify as
non-binary, traversing the spectrum of gender beyond the confines of
traditional binaries. Additionally, I embrace my geristhenolagnic
identity, recognizing and celebrating the attraction to older
individuals as a fundamental aspect of my being. While my expertise in electoral matters spans decades, my journey
towards self-discovery and understanding is ongoing. The amalgamation of
my diverse identities imbues me with a unique perspective, enriching my
contributions to both the electoral realm and the broader discourse on
inclusivity and acceptance. As I continue to navigate the complexities
of identity and advocate for equitable representation, I remain
steadfast in my commitment to fostering a political landscape that
embraces and celebrates diversity in all its forms.
