We asked all candidates the following questions, for which their replies are posted in full and our full justification for scoring how we did.
Pledge 1
To acknowledge wholeheartedly that fighting for LGBTIQA+ liberation goes hand in hand with fighting the climate crisis.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. It is clear that those who have a personal investment in allowing the climate crisis to continue, e.g. those invested in oil, have also been involved in attacking the rights of LGBTIQA+ people to create a distraction from the ongoing climate crisis and divide those who have an interest in fighting against the climate crisis (which includes most people). This intersectional view shows how fighting for LGBTIQA+ liberation goes hand in hand with fighting the climate crisis.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 2
To support and promote Green Party of England & Wales policy on LGBTIQA+ rights (including RR500 – RR539).
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. I will ensure the Green Party continues to campaign on these policies and stand up for LGBTIQA+ rights.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 3
To work with LGBTIQA+ Greens to deepen and extend the party’s support for and policies on LGBTIQA+ rights.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. I believe those who are most affected by our campaigns must be at the front of them, and so I will work with the LGBTIQA+ Greens to make sure they are happy with our campaigns and are publicly representing our campaigns. I will also always listen to their feedback as to how I can use my role to deepen and extend the party’s support for LGBTIQA+ rights, and work with them on improving our policies where they feel it is necessary.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 4
To work with LGBTIQA+ Greens to improve GPEW policy on trans healthcare (RR532-RR534) to provide fully funded and much-needed support to all trans people, to end segregated healthcare and to support appropriate healthcare for trans youth based on informed consent, Gillick competency and internationally recognised best practice.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. The recent developments which have stripped away Trans healthcare rights have been absolutely disgraceful, including the puberty blocker ban for under 18’s. I have been vocal about this on social media, and I will work with the LGBTIQA+ Greens to improve GPEW trans healthcare policy where they feel it is necessary if they ask for my assistance.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 5
To support LGBTIQA+ Greens to make further gains in ensuring GPEW provides a welcoming, safe and nourishing environment for LGBTIQA+ members.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. I believe it is so important that our party is a safe space for all people, particularly those from marginalised groups. I am aware that trans members in particular have felt unwelcomed in certain party spaces and I will support any initiative which aims to make the party feel more welcoming and safer for all LGBTIQA+ members.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 6
In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling, to work with LGBTIQA+ Greens and wider queer society, organisations and allies to campaign to protect previously established trans rights and for any changes to legislation which might be needed to ensure this protection.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. The Green Party must be really bold on trans rights, especially considering the awful supreme court ruling. I will make sure we have a vocal campaign on trans rights with trans members at the heart of it, so that we can hold the government to account in restoring and expanding trans rights.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 7
To fight for reform of the Gender Recognition Act to provide a kinder and less bureaucratic process for recognising trans people’s gender in law.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. Trans people should not have to undergo a laborious process in order to be legally recognised as the gender they identify as. The Gender Recognition Act must be amended and I would like this to be a part of our Green Party Campaigns.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 8
To support efforts to increase the number of LGBTIQA+ candidates for election to internal positions and to public office.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. It’s really important to me that we have a representative (or even over representative for marginalised groups) slate of candidates for internal positions and public office. I will support any initiative which wants us to increase our number of LGBTIQA+ candidates for internal and public elections.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 9
To campaign for this government to bring forward a genuine ban on conversion therapy. Conversion therapy includes medical, psychiatric, psychological, religious, cultural or any other interventions that seek to change, “cure”, or suppress the sexual orientation and/or gender identity of a person. Any ban must protect all LGBTIQA+ people, which includes providing genuine protection for trans people.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. If I’m elected as Campaigns Co-ordinator I will ensure we maintain a strong opposition to conversion therapy and continue to campaign on its banning. Being LGBTIQA+ is a natural and doesn’t need a “cure”, and banning conversion therapy will be an essential step to protecting LGBTIQA+ people.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Pledge 10
To stand in solidarity with LGBTIQA+ communities worldwide by working with international Green parties to oppose anti-LGBTIQA+ legislation and to promote global human rights and liberation.
Each candidate replied:
Asma Alam
No Response
Haydn Osborne-Brookes
Yes. I will work with the International Officer to ensure campaigns are taking place worldwide to protect LGBTIQA+ communities. Liberation of LGBTIQA+ people is an international struggle, and we must work with our international partners to ensure it is being fought for internationally.
For each candidate who responded, we scored them one point.
Overall Scores
For each candidate we have either given them one or zero points for their answers to their questions, and their final scores and what we think for each candidate are below:
Asma Alam
0/10
We did not receive a response from Asma.

Haydn clearly understands the reason behind the pledges and very much understands the context in which we ask him to pledge to support us!
